Théâtre d'épouvante dont le caractère exagéré et l'invraisemblance des situations rappellent les outrances du Grand-Guignol (infra hist.). Poë voulait faire accoucher les femmes par la terreur de pièces qu'il imaginait. C'est le Grand-Guignol. Mais on n'est pas accoucheur (VALÉRY, Corresp. [avec Gide], 1914, p. 436).
